We are looking at replacing our V8 Navigator L with another 3-row SUV. Currently we average approx 13 mpg over 25 miles daily.
The replacement vehicle will deal with extreme traffic (stop-n-go) and will be used 60 miles a day. And looks like in that scenario it averages 11.5 mpg over 60 miles. So it’s important that it be efficient or maybe hybrid of some sort.
Also, it needs to have three rows, with a total seating for at least 7.
Needs to accommodate 3 car seats plus 4 adults.
Range of vehicles I have looked at:
CPO MB GL 350 blutec: mpg and space
CPO Audi Q7 3.0 TDi
NEW VW Atlas 2.0T is efficient too.
.
.
I need more suggestions. I am trying to push my wife towards a large sedan.
Almost a NO :
Tesla Model X: mpge works in our favor, but it’s VERY expensive.
350 Infiniti OX60 Hybrid - mpg and usable space - Looks like a van (Wife and me are both against vans)
Pleas HALP!

Unfortunately I don’t have anything constructive to say outside of that. Maybe the Honda Pilot? Or... you know... Odyssey.

I’ll echo the mini van, just embrace it. The pacifica hybrid checks all your boxes, pretty good looking too

Efficient=/=SUV; solution invalid. Invoke Minivan protocol.

Funny I was on Mazda’s website looking at the updated CX-9.

I am fine who ever decides to drive mini-van. Fortunately, both me and my wife agree on this one aspect that we won’t have a mini-van in our household, ever. But thanks for playing.

I hate Toyota / Lexus. I wish XC90 had more space.

I might go checkout a CX-9. Pretty soon. I wish GM would put a fuckin’ diesel in the tahor / enclave

Why buy a denial minivan when a real minivan will do you much better in every aspect?

If you buy a modern SUV that’s not bof (aka CUV), you may as well buy a minivan. It’s the same thing only more useful in every aspect.

i guess its called personal preference. It’s not that we don;t like Mini-vans, We actually HATE them. So No Mini-vans. Because of that reason, the Infiniti QX is an almost NO.

Lexus has a new 3-row RX that also comes with a hybrid powertrain. However, your requirements of 3 car seats AND 4 adults rules this out as the 3rd row of seats are rather tiny and a normal adult would NOT want to sit back there for long at all.

I agree with you and everyone who says minivan is more practical. But I am not looking for more practical and I am not looking for a mini-van.

I sat in one of the new VW Atlases at the last auto show, it’s pretty darn spacious inside. Full size adults in all 3 rows with actual knee room, and the middle row seat folds up to make accessing the back seat pretty easy.

I’m not sure why people have such a hard time understanding this. My wife and I are on the same wavelength. Why would we pay money for something we don’t want?

If you can wait, I’d imagine that there is a hybrid Explorer coming since the recently announced Aviator is going to have a plug-in option.

How about get a new crew cab pickup, with a cap on the back. It doesn’t really matter which brand, pick the one that looks best to you. The bed area could them be considered the “Punishment Zone”, and whichever adult or child is most deserving has to bounce around back there while the other 6 get a nice comfy seat up front.

Honest opinion here: Everything you listed is a minivan.
I understand the dislike, I used to share the same view, as did my wife. Then we drove 3rd row CUVs and minivans back to back, that was the deciding factor.
Every 3rd row CUV was cramped, got far worse mileage, and handled worse. After dealing with getting the kids in and out of them, we decided ease of use was far more important than upholding some image that doesn’t exist.

I love Honda / Acura. My only issue is I have “slight” beef with the road noise when we were in a Pilot last time around. Also how it looks is not kinda not as god as the updated highlander

There’s an MDX Hybird but it’s super fucking expensive
BASE PRICES: Technology, $52,935; Advance, $58,975
EPA combined/city/highway driving: 27/26/27 mpg

Yeah, at that price, I’d rather keep driving the Navigator L and pay an extra 2k in fuel cost every year.. rather than pay 10k in depreciation the moment i drive it off

Honestly it is not.
Everything is not a minivan.
Everything maybe less practical than a minivan but it is not a minivan
Everything maybe inferior to a minivan, but it is not a minivan.
Everything maybe less efficient and more costly than a minivan, but it is not a minivan.
MB GL is not a minivan.
Audi Q7 is not a minivan.
Atlas 2.0T not a minivan.
.
.
Infiniti Qx60 is a minivan.

You really need a 2+2+3 or 2+3+3 vehicle. A 2+3+2 seems like a waste of your time to even look at.
That said, you should check over something like the Subaru Ascent. The top end models are rated at 20 in the city, which is crazy good and run regular 87 (which will save you more than economy if 91 and 93 end up costing $1 more per gallon over regular in the future).
You’ll also get the advantage of high resale value from it being a Subaru (the most premium product they have ever offered at that) AND a large utility.
No matter what you find, I strongly recommend investigating 3rd rows that can seat three since that will work best as everyone grows as well.

Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid?
Range Rover.
Lincoln Navigator/Ford Expedition, especially the longer models.
Ford Transit (yes, it’s a van, but it exceeds all requirements by the widest margin).

The newest newnew Odyssey, my wife finalky said about a minivan, actually looks good. Its your solution. Efficient. Just go drive one and let it prove you right or wrong.

Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid - yes it’s a whole lot expensive than the T6. The economics will probably not work. But there you have a 400 hp. But they do run massive discounts on those.
Range Rover.: I know it’s a joke, but those are gonna depreciate quickly and I think by the time all is said and done, you’re better of in a Tesla Model X 75D. I could be wrong.
Lincoln Navigator/Ford Expedition, especially the longer models.:: We a;ready own the 14' Navigator L. I am not sure of the incremental efficiency from the outdated V8 to the ecoboost. Specially when you bring both into a stop n go traffic. It may not be economically correct.
Ford Transit (yes, it’s a van, but it exceeds all requirements by the widest margin).: Yeah Ford Transit will not happen. :)

2018+ Navigator & Expedition have both stop/start and 10-speed transmissions. Much better on gas.

not trying o be negative, but
1) I hear they are selling really well - so less push / incentives
2) they are fairly new, so less incentives
3) 2018 models, so no CPO deals/
